That sounds like a great idea, we are creating several unique classes so the player can recon enemy positions as he/she progresses through the ranks (we don't want our maps to be all about the "fog of war").

The standard reconnaissance units are usually:

- Specialized recon infantry units: Which can reveal a great portion of the surrounding area, these are usually the first alternative, units include Designated Marksmen and Snipers among others. Recon infantry role is critical, specially in the first phases of a battle (and are extremely stealthy).

- Recon vehicles: Lighter and highly mobile vehicles can double as very effective recon vehicles and are the first true reconnaissance vehicles the player has access to.

- Recon Helicopters: Highly mobile and are specially useful as artillery spotters. These can be armed but mainly for self defense and small offensive roles (these helis rely on speed and agility to avoid enemy ground fire).

- UAV's (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles): Incredibly useful, UAV's will be vital as the battle progress, these will allow the player to get constant battlefield data. Since these are stealthy, they can move from area to area with ease.

- UCAV's (Unmanned Combat Air Vehicles): As the battle progresses and players get access to more advanced technology, UCAV's will eventually become available for use.
By combining the usefulness of UAV's with powerful armament (usually missiles), UCAV's can perform stealthy and very accurate surgical strikes and perform reconnaissance roles as well.

- Spy/Reconnaissance Satellites: The ultimate recon tool, spy satellites will able the using player to reveal the whole map for a set period of time.
These will be costly and players will need a high rank to use'em, but if well used, can mean the difference between victory and defeat.
These will be much more useful than ZH's satellites.

lol! lol! lol!

The MQ-8 Fire Scout will be included in TAOW as well 8) , the DDG-1000, for example, will be able to launch these UAV's for close to medium range naval patrol.

There will be two versions:
- The recon version;
- The armed one (light attack/recon roles).

UAV's/UCAV's will play an important role in TAOW, since they are starting to get widely used on today's battlefield (and will continue to perform more and more advanced duties).

We'll probably include lighter recon-only dedicated vehicles (lighter and faster than the Humvee, but with less armor obviously).

We'll probably include everyone's favorite vehicles such as the DPV (Desert Patrol Vehicle) buggy and a few others (like the German/Dutch Fennek recon vehicle).

We were planning for the US to use a special varient of the humvee. This humvee would not be armed at all, but would carry surveillance equipment (for increased View Range). The scout teams would automatically be Given a scout humvee for every squad. BUT the humvee would not be stealth. therefore, driving your scout team around the battlefield too close to the enemy lines will give away your position. This would Force the player to unload his recon squad and park the vehicle in safe distance, then continue the scouting on foot.

The Russian scout vehicle will be the old school (yet useful and very effective) BRDM-2, this amphibious armored scout car will be armed with high caliber machine guns and a decent armor but will be more expensive and slower than the agile and sneaky western counterparts.

Polish BRDM-2:

Oh And I Forgot (Again:P)

Some Planes (Black Aricraft)

The Brilliant Buzzard:

The Brilliant Buzzard, also known as the Mothership and Super Valkyrie is thought to be a huge aircraft with a wingspan of two hundred feet or so which actually launches smaller reconnaissance craft. Sightings of this delta winged craft first began in the early nineties.

_____________________________________________________

F-117 (lot Known About It)
_____________________________________________________

The TR-3A Black Manta

The TR-3A Black Manta was designed for stealth. It is a flying wing, and a cross between the F-117A and B-2. Observers say that it has rounded tips, but there are also reports of a craft with more sawteeth across the trailing edge, called the "Artichoke". The TR-3A is said to be much quieter than the stealth fighter F-117A. It is supposed to be a follow-up on the F-117A. Although some people say that it could be used in the Gulf War, in operation "Team Stealth", that would mean that the F-117A and the TR-3A were developed at roughly the same time (+/-10 years), and that would be almost impossible. The TR-3A is much more advanced than the F-117A, and it takes many years to produce such a big improvement. Still, the TR-3A is reported to be flying with KC-135 tankers, F-117s and T-38s, and is thought to have a capability to collect and transmit information back to F-117s, which was supposedly it's role in the Gulf War.

It's Used For Recon

Stealth Cruise Missiles:

The newest cruise missiles all sport stealth technology to overcome their relatively low speed. Early stealth cruise missiles were tested at Area 51 but no version is currently in service. The more "white" versions from Lockheed are pictured here.

Yeah, the Active Denial System (ADS) electromagnetic radiation directed-energy weapon is a really interesting design.
We want to create a POW (Prisoner of War) system in TAOW, but, if possible, it'll be extremely difficult (if not even impossible to complete), if we manage to include such a "POW system" in the mod, then we will probably use this Humvee variant.

James100 wrote:Oh, And Don't Forget Spy Planes Very Happy

Yeah, I was thinking of recommending spy planes for inclusion in TAOW, but we'll have to study the UAV effects ingame first (since UAV's will be very importat for all major advanced recon roles). If we are to include spy planes, it's either for fast "recon runs" or high altitude recon (which would reveal a wide area for a small amount of time, useful to study the enemy's AA defenses).

About the SR-71 Blackbird, the baby B-2 (TR-3A Black Manta), Blackstar (Brilliant Buzzard, aka “Mothership” variant), Aurora, F-117A, etc. we're afraid we may not include these particular aircraft, instead we will include other "surprises" (I can't reveal them at this point though, sorry) sunny.

In the case of the Blackbird and F-117A, these were pulled out of service (yeah, even everyone's favorite F-117 Nighthawk "Hopeless Diamond" (retired late April 2008 Sad )).

About Stealth Cruise Missiles, we are planning to include them, an example is the advanced European Storm Shadow (aka SCALP EG):

Re: Stratagy???

Yeah, the US was talking about a looooot of extra projects such as:
- 2018 Bomber;
- FB-22 "Strike Raptor";
- 2037 Bomber;
- B-1R;
- the inclusion of the YF-23

etc, etc.

The Congress is not too happy with all these plans because of the HUGE cost of these aircraft.

About the F-190, you mean the F-19?

I'd say that it would be a huge waste to abandon all the F-117's Sad , but they want the F-22 and F-35 to assume it's roles, but I'm afraid they are indeed cancel the whole F-117 program (because the current aircraft is in itself a product of the '70s and some integral problems with the F-117 design (which made it earn the "Hopeless Diamond" nickname).

Officially, it seems as if they are going to abandon the whole F-117 fleets Sad Sad Sad , I would conduct extra research on the design and even arm it with more advanced weapons (to keep it in duty for some extra years, since the US don't have an exact F-117 counterpart at this point, the F/B-22 would probably solve that problem, but costs are HUGE and not to mention that they planned the F/B-22 to replace the F-15E.

FB-22 concept (basically an enlarged F-22 "Strike fighter" /Medium Bomber version):

Think of the F-22A and F/B-22 as a parallelism between the older F-15C and the F-15E:

- F-15C -» F-22A
- F-15E -» F/B-22

I'm an aircraft aficionado (so is Marc) so I like to sift available information and separate the plausible (the ones that aren't too "embellished") from the "dirt info" (the sea of fake conspiracy theories).

Since there are so many Conspiracy Theories these days it's hard to find any that is, in fact, based on real information (and I guarantee you that there's a LOT of important info that is lost this way) all because of sensationalism and "conspiracy saturation" (which will result in many people getting saturated and bored from so much "fake conspiracies").

Probably, there are many technologies which will eventually merge together to form the next generation of fighter/bomber (with new advances in design / new materials / advanced weaponry, etc.)

Technologies may include Tailless Fighters (such as the X-36):

X-36 Tailless Fighter Agility Research Aircraft (I love this plane)

... with Thrust vectoring, forward-swept wing, canards and probably new advances in Scramjet technology:

X-43A UAV (NASA), concept:

Unmanned technology will be a central point in these advances, expect more advanced "smart" bombs/missiles and many extra developments in radar technology and even stealth (Plasma Stealth, etc.)
