Recovery/Repair vehicles

Post  Pathfinder on Mon Apr 06, 2009 5:33 pm

Seeing how this mod has a whole lot of lovely vehicles i was wondering, will there be any engineering vehicles for repair and recovery.
And would it be possible for this mod to have a savage/recovery logic sorta like the one on ROTR.

Precisely Thumbs Up!, the crew of a heavily damaged vehicle may automatically eject from the vehicle (a pilot like the armor crewman which was presented in the last update may eject and is able to return to the vehicle after it is repaired).

Since this time players won't be building Warfactories or having "Repair Power Ups" which mysteriously repair vehicles, we have created some brand new classes dedicated for vehicle repairing (and other special/miscellaneous tasks like deploying defensive sandbag structures, defusing IED's, etc.), more precisely:

- Engineering Infantry;
- Medium Armored Recovery Vehicles;
- Heavily Armored Recovery Vehicles / Tanks.

Some of the current examples of such repair vehicles for the US faction include the Buffalo MRAP (Mine Resistant Ambush Protected) vehicle:

And the M88A2 Hercules, the heaviest tank for the US side (even heavier than an Abrams):

I'm surprised not many games use vehicles like the M88 despite it's important role.

So would it be possible for enemies to take over abandoned vehicles.
After they repair them of course.

now that the mod has armoured crewmen, how will "yoinking" empty vehicles be done? because ZH was kinda stupid how any random grunt just somehow knew how to drive a tank and could take any empty one. if your enemy abandons a damaged vehicle you should be able to repair it and put your own armoured crewmen in.

Yup Thumbs Up!

The fact that any guy could just commander any vehicle in ZH is unrealistic, our objective is to have ground vehicles commandeered by specialized crewmen ONLY.

In a sense, if an enemy vehicle is abandoned it may be able to be restored and captured by our crewmen.

Work is still to be conducted on that (abandoned vehicles being able to be captured by crewmen only) so I can't be 100% sure at this time but in any case we won't be having standard infantry capturing vehicles like ZH.

maybe leave a small handfull of light vehicles that grunts can still capture eg. Humvees, Desert patrol vehicles (which you guys have yet to announce if it'll be included. absolute must for early game assaults) etc...

and leave the armoured crewmen to abandoned tanks, APCs, IFVs, etc...

I wouldn't be surprised if the idea of recovering crash heli wreckage was implemented

Precisely sunny, that idea is similar to the one in Project Reality (an excellent Battlefield 2 mod) in which we need the particular pilot/crewman kit to operate the more "specialized" vehicles (while lighter vehicles like Humvees can be operated by the standard soldiers).

Indeed, though I can't confirm or deny it at the moment (we're still taking care of standard ground-based repair and recovery).
