Decoys or Fake Units

Post  Jarhead on Wed Jun 24, 2009 3:31 am

What do you guys think about allowing either infantry or some vehicle to place decoys or fake units on the battlefield. Doing so might provoke an opponent to waste a bombing run or other special weapon on a mass of fake vehicles. It would also be fun to take a unit which can place remote demo charges on the decoys so when an enemy realizes that they are fake and move in and Boom!! In all reality placing decoys or non useable units on the board is a form of disinformation that adds yet another tactic to the way war is fought.

auctually, that's already being done right now. the russians are manufacturing INFLATABLE tanks to fool their enemies into thinking they have more units than they do, and that they're in a different position thant the real ones. although they are clearly fake up close, they can fool enemy scouts who do not scope in close enough to see but it's mainly so vast amounts of tanks can show up on enemy satelite.

who knows, maybe you could hide a few real tanks in there holding fire, then when the enemy rolls through the "fake" tanks the real once pounce into action and ambush the enemy.

This is a pretty cool idea! sunny

And it might fit right in as an extra type of unit to even diversify TAOW's tactics, great idea Jarhead Thumbs Up!

Yup, that tactic was very used, specially in WW2 in which both the Allies and Axis used inflatable Dummy Tanks for various uses (note the inflatable Sherman dummy tank below).

Even today, many of the world's militaries still use dummy weapons, specially since today's combat vehicles are very expensive (many were used in Kosovo War for instance), the US Army, for example, haves an inflatable M1 Abrams version and the Russians also have a wide array of decoy weapons such as inflatable tanks and other dummy vehicles to camouflage tactically relevant units, an example is this dummy S-300 truck:

I'd say the importance of dummy tanks will increase over time, with new materials and specially since the real military vehicles are getting more and more expensive.

Actually, in a sense, we could say that we already use dummy tanks in TAOW, the very first opposition vehicles we used (and still use), are vehicle and tank targets, to test our own weapons.

cool
Maybe a tutorial, where you have to sgoot at targets, get to know the camera controls, controlling units and moving them, how to use the class system etc, wouldn't it be nice to have it in TAOW?

Precisely Thumbs Up!

We'll definitely need to include new tutorials since there will be a lot of changes in TAOW (both in the game system and gameplay).

We'll include special tutorial missions so the players can get used to the new changes.
